Campbell Mattinson's palate is taken aback by the ripe fruit flavour of Oxford Landing Shiraz
28 February 2009
"I've been complaining behind the scenes recently that not enough cheap wine - and I mean sub AU$12 RRP when I say that - gets sent to me. A huge amount of what comes to me is priced at AU$25 and above, which is fine - but unrepresentative of the buying public. The strange thing is, some of these cheap reds are pretty good.
I'm not sure if this is released - if it's not it won't be too far off. It didn't grab me at first but having now been opened a couple of hours its sweet, raspberried, ripe fruit flavour has come to the fore, and it's most enjoyable drinking. It's not a heavy or gutsy wine by any means, but at the same time it's not dilute. It has spicy, woody aspects through the finish and has a good, attractive purity to it. It's mid-week quaffing for sure, but it's remarkable how much this improved given time to breathe. Lovely work from the Yalumba team." Rated : 87 Points. Drink : 2009 - 2010
